Random--My Brain and This Post

This post will be totally random--simply because that's how I'm feeling:

I have spent the last few days being sick in bed. It started with a sore throat and runny nose and then I ended up getting the flu. Still am not 100% but feel a little better.

Today is Stephen and Daphne's 22nd Anniversary. Happy Anniversary, guys.

And 22 years later at Daph's 20 year reunion.

Last week I finished reading "The Fire of the Covenant" (the story of the Willie and Martin Handcart Company) by Gerald Lund. As I read, I was reminded of something I've known for a long time--I would have been a horrible pioneer. Poor Allan would have been wishing he had duck tape on the trail--no, not to fix our handcart but to cover my mouth and keep me from murmuring. I highly recommend reading the book--just make sure you have lots of kleenex.

Because I've been sick I have not been able to exercise for the last few days. I'm so excited to see that the weather next week is going to be fairly mild, which means I will be able to run. I will probably have to do the run a couple of minutes, walk 1, for a few minutes until I get my strength back.

The Olympics are wrapping up--tomorrow will be the closing ceremonies, but they will take place after the highlight for many Canadians--the Gold Medal hockey game that will have the U.S. taking on Canada. It has prompted a poll on our family website. The question: Who do you want to win the Gold Medal in hockey? Tough one for me--I know how much it means to everyone in Canada.

Sorry you have been sick... get well fast or faster.

Happy Anniversary #22 to Stephen .n. Daphne.

Horrible pioneer??? It sounds like you would at least go on the trip even if you would look funny with a sock stuffed in your mouth to stop the whinning. I don't think I would even go at all. Pioneering is not my thing. I love all of the modern day conveniences... and then some.

Last but not least...

GO CANADA!!!! sometimes I feel Canadians work hard to earn these medals... while especially in team sports the Americans act like they are entitled. (just my view on things...)

I have so enjoyed ALL of the Olympics (what I have seen) and CURLING the very mostest.

Being sick is no fun! I hope you are back to 100% soon!
I kind of want the U.S. to win the Hockey game, but at the same time I think it would be sad for Canada not to win when it's in their own country, so I will be okay with either result.

P.S. I hope you feel better soon.

And I loved that book. It's been awhile since I read it, but it was by far one of my favorites.

Hope you really are feeling better! I know what you mean about exercising. I feel so much better when I do!
It's a shame to say, but I haven't followed the Olympics as much this year as I have in the past! Do you think blogging is taking up my time? Perish the thought!

Glad you're on the mend!

I have read that book several times and it makes me cry every time. It also helps me appreciate the pioneers so much more.... for their faith, their endurance, their fortitude, EVERYTHING!! I hear Lund has a new book out that's very good. I'm looking forward to reading it!

I hope you're feeling a little better now, Yvonne!

I have to admit that I hope Canada wins the gold tomorrow. I just think it would be really special for them to do it on their home turf. And weren't they the ones who invented hockey anyway?

Happy Anniversary to Daphne and Stephen. They still look so cute together.

I would have made a terrible pioneer too! I'm so grateful to have been born when I was because I honestly don't know if I would have made it!

I'm so sorry you've been sick!! That is no fun.
And yeah, you'll want to start slow with your running again, but it will come back fast.

Sorry that you have been sick! I hope that you perk up soon.

As for the game... I am 50/50 and agree that it means more to the Canadians, so I say GO CANADA!

Hope you feeling better soon! Beautiful pictures of the darling couple.

I loved that book. I read it right before we took our youth to Martins Cove.

TWINS! I would have made a horrible pioneer, too!

I'm so glad you're starting to get better! The first time you exercise after being sick it's usually super hard, but it improves every day! :)

Yuck! I got a sore throat last week but managed to dodge the flu! Knock on wood!!

Beautiful couple! They look so young it doesn't seem like they could be celebrating 22 years - Wow!

Fire of the Covenant was one of my all time favorite books - SO GOOD!!

Did you read in the front where he is researching the book and goes to that area in warm winter clothes and in a heated SUV and can only stand outside for like 5 minutes without freezing - really brings it home!

22 years is wonderful!

I'm glad you are feeling better. I had the dreaded h1n1 a few month back. It was not fun.

We are catching up on a lot of the Olympics today. Thank goodness for DVR.

Hope you will be fully recovered soon.
I'm right with you on the whole pioneering thing. I would have been the first one to drop on the trail. How did they do it? I'm so in awe of them.

Sorry that you aren't feeling well. So glad that you read that book. I have read it a few times. I love pioneer stories. So inspiring.

I wouldn't make a very good pioneer either. I don't think vegetarianism was real popular back then and I do NOT process animals.

Glad you are on the mend.

Since this is past the date I am ok with Canada winning. They fought hard for it.
