Last year my word was SMILE and it worked well. (Then again, there was so very much to smile about.) Yet, I found I was even able to look for the things to smile about during a couple of tough times--so it was a great word.

It has taken me almost a week to come up with my word for this year. I've thought a lot about different words--Listen, Reflect, Relax, Ponder, Seek and I've finally decided on RECOGNIZE I think all those other things will be involved, but I need to ultimately recognize. What do I hope to recognize:
  • Obviously, the Spirit--recognize it, and then "go and do" (as Nephi wrote in 1 Nephi 3:7)
  • The hand of the Lord in my life--look and recognize things that perhaps I easily overlook. As part of this, I want to follow the counsel of Elder Eyring in Conference 2007 about writing every day and "Before I would write, I would ponder this question: “Have I seen the hand of God reaching out to touch us or our children or our family today?” I know that as I seek to recognize I will see His hand.
  • Right along with recognizing the hand of the Lord in my life, would be to recognize how blessed I am. That may sound a little redundant, but I guess I mean to really recognize the things I take for granted. And I really want to recognize those blessings each and every day.
  • The good in others--recognize their goodness. I have noticed that I am not always looking for the good, but rather focusing on the negative. I know this is something I need to do.
  • Things I can do to be of service to those around me. I have mentioned before that I have become a bit of a hermit. I need to get out recognize needs and then get busy and serve.
Here's hoping for a great 2011. It sure started out great. My newest granddaughter, baby LK was born on Monday. She had a little bit of trouble and ended up having to be transferred to the NICU. But, after a couple of days on Oxygen she was released and was able to go home yesterday. Mom is doing well, too.

I love this picture of her big brother reading to her. Of course, he didn't understand why she wasn't looking at the book ; )

I can't wait to see her on the 17th--and I promise I WILL TAKE LOTS AND LOTS OF PICTURES ; )

I HAVE TO ADD: I so love being a mom and grandma and a great-grandma. I have amazing children who touch my heart in ways I never thought possible.

Sidenote #1: I'm busy working on everything for the reception here on the 15th. So grateful for creative friends who are willing to share their ideas and their talents. Can't wait to see what they are helping to create to transform our cultural hall ; ) So excited to see Heidi and Daniel in a week.

Sidenote #2: I start a new challenge next week. It's going to be a little different but should be fun.

Congratulations on a beautiful new granddaughter. I love the picture of her brother reading to her. As a former reading specialist, I cannot say enough about beginning to read to them when they are little and this sure qualifies as little. :) So cute!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like your word for the year too. You always have the best ideas and thoughts.

Can't wait to see the pictures of the reception. I'm sure it will be lovely

I love your word for 2011! It will be a good one to keep you going!
My word is CONNECT! I'm sure it makes no sense without an explanation and I need to explain it but I won't right now.

So sorry it's so dang cold there! You really do need some gloves before you go out hunting for things for the reception!
One more week until the big event and then off to see the newest grandchild! I hope you take pictures of it all!

I think RECOGNIZE is an awesome one word resolution.

I have another friend that did this the other day and her word was TRUE. I told her I would decided what my word is... still don't have it all settled... but when I do I will let you in on it.

Also... you my dear are not a bad friend. Jan 3rd was my and besides you are busy taking care of all of your family and that is and should be your #1 priority.
